If you desire to be an author, and a successful one at that, you will have to learn how to master procrastination and become diligent in working on your book. This is what separates the winners from the losers much of the time in life. We procrastinate. We put things off until we get “that feeling.” And so we do not get done what we could have done, or we do not reach our goals.
This is really true when it comes to writing for in order to become an effective writer and author we have to understand that it will take discipline and diligence. It will take tenacity and steadfastness. It will take persistence, even when we do not feel like writing, or even when it seems as if we do not know where else to go in our story. I have found that the successful authors and writings who go about things the right way take their careers as authors very seriously. I have read of some who said that they would sit at their computers from eight in the morning until later in the evening, treating their ‘job’ as a writer as if it was a real nine to five job in the traditional work place. No wonder they are so successful.
They refuse to procrastinate until they feel like writing. They do it whether they feel like it or not. They realize that writing consistently is essential to true success as an author. One has even shared how he sits at his computer for the length of time described above even if he does not know where to go in his writing. He just sits there and stares at the screen until the inspiration of where to go next comes to him.
If you constantly put off writing and working on your book, waiting for that ‘feeling to write’ you may never get too far in your goal of producing that best-selling work of art. Real writers refuse to procrastinate.
When people here in my country hear that I have written over twenty books and counting they are amazed. They ask me how I was able to accomplish this. Being a pastor and doing other work, where do I find the time to write so much? I told them that when something means so much to you, you will make the time. And that is exactly how I have done it. While I do not sit at a computer from nine to five in the morning, I know what it is to work on my books while my wife and family sleep. I know what it is to work on a book when my wife is watching something on television that I am not interested in. I know what it is to work on a book at any free moment that I have until I get it done. I am passionate as a writer and an author. And because of this, I am now able to write a good book within a month if I have minimal distractions. (I must admit I have become pretty fast at typing on my laptop. I did not start out that way. Comes with practice.)
Does your book mean that much to you? Do you really desire to be an author, I mean, a successful, best-selling one? Do you desire to know the key to success as a writer, or even in any other field of endeavor? Then learn to MASTER PROCRASTINATION and stop putting off what you know you need to do. Pull up your chair. Sit at that computer, or with your pens and notepad. Write. Get it done. Write your masterpiece. The world is waiting.
